Other Home Theater Additions

 I have been busy like normal with the holidays and all but I have made a few more changes to my home theater in the last few months and just haven't had a chance to post about it. 

I have added Vinyl back to my listening and I have went full in with Atmos and added a couple speakers attached to my ceiling. 

I wanted to go a bit above a basic turntable to start with but, also not too expensive. Somewhere in the middle so that I could get the full experience while yet not going so cheap that I was disappointed with the results. I ended up going with a Fluance RT81, overall it had good reviews and features for the price point and overall I have been extremely happy with it. Though my entertainment center is full so my girlfriend had an old stereo shelf I felt I could use to house it. Not ideal but as I have mentioned in the past my room is not ideal so it works for now.

The other change I made was to fully go "Atmos" by buying some SVS Prime Elevation speakers. I originally placed them behind my couch on stands where my older Polk T15s were and they definitely sounded good, but I wanted to get them where they should be up high. Where my fireplace is and the shape of the room makes things difficult so I just went with the screw it let's put them on the roof. 

So I went and put some anchors in the roof and hung them up, re-ran audessey and overall I think it works. I wish in a way I had gone with an AVR that could support more channels but in this room, I really don't need it. It is just the geek in me. 



Anyway a short update on items I had been working on and updating. I really didn't want to put any kind of permanent holes in the ceiling etc, and I need to get a longer RCA cable at some point for the record player, but otherwise that's it.

As I mentioned in my last post I was tired of having a folder full of bookmarks to get to everything on my network...I have a bunch of stuff and it sucks. So I had seen someone discussing Organizr ( https://organizr.app/ ) a while back and thought yep its time to make this work. So I set up a new jail on my new FreeNas server as I mentioned in the last post and got to work. So after quite a bit of experimentation, reading, playing, downloading custom JPEGs etc this is where I ended up at. A landing page with all my links that can be easily updated as needed. Finished SVS upgrades

 Finally replaced my last 2 Polk T-15 surrounds with SVS satellites, not a huge improvement in any way but call it my OCD I like having all the base channels the same. SVS was having a sale on them for 124 each in Piano black. The post on their outlet said they were missing threads on the back, but I can't see anything wrong with them and they have the wall mounting hardware on them...soooo i dunno maybe just a bit overstocked and wanted to get rid of some. I do need to find some better stands as the stands I have do not close tight enough to hold them. Microsoft JDBC and Microsoft SQL Server

For a recent project, I was asked to get the Microsoft JDBC working on Redhat with SQL 2016. In the instructions I found online to be blunt they were lacking especially because I am not a programmer. I hope that this post helps someone in the future attempting something similar. First JDBC for Windows and JDBC for Linux work a bit different. At the time I write this there is a version 6.2 for Windows, but the Linux driver is only at 4.2. This leads to one major difference 6.2 supports passing a username and password as part of the connect string for Kerberos on Windows while the 4.2 driver for Linux does not. Below is a java sample code that works on windows without getting into keytabs etc. I assume in all this you know you need to add a server principal name to your SQL Server service accounts and have already done that.
