FreeNas cutover and More

I got all the hard drives moved over, I got a few new small flash drives for SLOGs in my system. I ordered a few of these for putting a 2.5-inch drive into my 3.5 bays. They work perfectly.

Other than having to fight the networking which seems pretty standard on a move it all went pretty well. I don't know what it is about FreeNas in LACP that completely pisses off my switches, but once I got it worked out it is working very well. Then took the old PC/Server out.



The bigger project for the weekend was getting Organizr, Lidarr, and ZoneMinder running. These were a combination of a few projects I had been working on. Each of these is running in their own jail inside of FreeNAS along with other software.

So I am not going to give full instructions, lets just say it took some playing for each. My music collection is a mess and I am using this opportunity with Lidarr to fix it up, this is going to take some time.

Organizr, I am just getting tired of management of all the different internal web services I have. Some people are doing some really cool stuff with it, I may bling it out more, but initially its just to make things easier.

Zoneminder - well I am not always home just like anyone. I have ADT at the house, but no cameras etc. This will allow me to add some cameras and monitor the house a bit when I am gone etc. So far I only bought one camera.

So far it has really impressed me. I will go into each of these more on my next longer post and what I have been doing with them.

As I mentioned in my last post I was tired of having a folder full of bookmarks to get to everything on my network...I have a bunch of stuff and it sucks. So I had seen someone discussing Organizr ( https://organizr.app/ ) a while back and thought yep its time to make this work. So I set up a new jail on my new FreeNas server as I mentioned in the last post and got to work. So after quite a bit of experimentation, reading, playing, downloading custom JPEGs etc this is where I ended up at. A landing page with all my links that can be easily updated as needed. Little Healthcare/Cash for Clunkers Humor

Not much to post today but the following Clunker  Math The person who calculated this bit of information is now and has been a professor at The University of West Virginia in Morgantown, West Virginia for the last forty some years. A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year at 15 mpg uses 800 gallons of gas a year. The government claims 700,000 clunkers have been replaced so that’s 224 million gallons saved per year. A vehicle  that travels 12,000 miles a year at 25 mpg uses 480 gallons of gas a year. So, the average Cash for Clunkers transaction will reduce gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year. That  equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil~5 million barrels is about 5 hours worth of US consumption. More importantly, 5 million barrels of oil at $70 per barrel costs about $350 million dollars. So, the government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save  $350   million.... First Blog

I created this site a while ago and never really knew what to put on it. Well I guess I found something. The TSA's new security procedures. I have served this country for 14 years I joined the military right out of high school and never have I felt like I do today. I thought the patriot act was a step in the wrong direction but hoped it would be temporary but necessary due to the 9/11 attacks thinking like many eventually they would be scaled back. But alas 10 years later we see their scope get larger everyday and much more intrusive. Most of us think the TSA is a joke though I doubt many complain about the metal detectors and having more scrutiny of our ID and plans. Taking of fingernail clippers and water ok that starts to get ridiculous. I think though inconvenient its minor and to most we just put up with it but now with the body scanners and pat downs we are being treated as criminals just to ride a plane and I personally believe it has gone to far.
